The Exclusive Benefits of Virgin Coconut Oil

Have you used virgin coconut oil on your hair? Wow! How I love the feel! The first time i applied it on my braid out i felt heavenly! It’s so cool and soothing and i loved the fact that it made my hair softer.

I have been using ordinary coconut oil the one you make in your kitchen using heat, heat deplets the vitamins and nutrient supposed to be derived from the wonder food-coconut, hence when you apply it on your hair you hardly get the full benefits of the coconut oil.

Virgin coconut oil is popular for its nice fragrance, taste, antioxidants, medium chain fatty acids and vitamins, and so much more. Some call it Extra virgin, what ever you call it, the virgin word there is most important because that is what distinguishes it from the ordinary one we all are used to.

Virgin coconut oil is not simply another name given to the ordinary coconut oil we prepare in our kitchen.

There is really a substance called virgin coconut oil and, if not entirely, it has some important differences from ordinary coconut oil. These differences mainly lie with the source (more specifically, the physical form of the source), the method of extraction, and its subsequent benefits. Virgin coconut oil is rapidly gaining in popularity throughout the world in comparison to ordinary coconut oil, and the reason is quite obvious.

I can bodly say that i am a bonafide witness to this fact, some weeks ago, my sister’s baby developed these rashes on her arm and she applied virgin coconut oil, the next morning the rashes had dried up! Yes, it is that effective and also very good on the shin, It could be used as a conditioner on it’s own and would certainly give you that healthy feeling you crave for your hair. Virgin coconut oil gives this softneness and smoothness on the skin such as when you start it you will not want to stop it.

Differences Between Virgin Coconut Oil and Ordinary Coconut Oil

One would wonder, what made these two sisters, born of the same mother, so different from each other, yet in other ways remain so similar.

The major difference between the ordinary coconut oil and virgin oil is in the  extraction method used in the production process. While the former is extracted by cold compression or cold milling of Copra (another name for dried Coconut kernels) with a moisture content of around six percent, the latter is extracted from the coconut milk obtained from fresh coconuts. Thereafter, using processes such as fermentation, churning (centrifugal separation), refrigeration, and the action of enzymes.

In some cases, this fresh coconut oil is boiled to obtain the oil by evaporating the water or moisture. However, in the case of virgin coconut oil, the raw materials and the process of extraction should not allow any involvement of heat. Therefore, in good and reputable firms that manufacture virgin coconut oil, throughout the whole process, the utmost care is taken to ensure that the kernels and the raw material, i.e. the coconut milk, are not subjected to heat or sunlight.

Virgin coconut oil looks slightly different from ordinary coconut oil. This difference is mainly due to the presence of certain colloidal and other particles and moisture within it. On the other hand, ordinary oil is refined and is mainly left with the fatty acids in it and almost nothing else. Ideally, virgin coconut oil should be as clear as water just like the one in the picture.

In composition,  a few good things, such as some polyphenols, vitamins, and minerals that contribute to the taste, fragrance, and goodness of coconut oil are found more in virgin coconut oil than in its ordinary counterpart due to it’s natural process of production. Furthermore, it is richer is medium chain fatty acids, good cholesterol, and has almost no trans fatty acids. That is why it works faster and more effective than the ordinary coconut oil.

Since it is not subjected to heat and being extracted from fresh (non-dried) coconuts with a different process of extraction, virgin coconut oil is certainly richer in benefits than ordinary coconut oil. It is higher in vitamin content, antioxidants (which is not or negligible in ordinary coconut oil), minerals, medium chain fatty acids, taste, fragrance, and even the amount of protein. The shelf life of virgin coconut oil is very long, much longer than any other edible oil.  Also, it does not go rancid easily. Due to the presence of high amounts of Lauric and Capric acid, the prospect of using Virgin Coconut Oil in aiding the treatment of AIDS is also being explored.

And the price? As we all know, good things are not cheap. Virgin coconut oil is no exception to that rule. It is dearer than ordinary coconut oil (since production is more complicated and costlier). The prices may vary depending upon the manufacturer.

So if you have never used it before try it just once and tell us your experience!
