Danarsha’s Hair Story

Hello Loves!

My name is Danarsha, but most call me Narsha. I live in California and I
have all of my life. Growing up my hair has always been natural. So with that being said, I have been natural for my entire life! My mother always had my hair done with either pony tails or braids. She always knew that my
hair was “different” because she would never perm or relax it, like she did her own hair.

My grandma would always tell her to never even put heat on my hair because she knew that it would cause damage. Once I got to middle school, I wanted to have the freedom to do my own hair. Of course, I had no idea it would be so much maintenance. I was always so frustrated that I
could not just take a shower, wash my hair, and literally walk out the door
like my other friends could. But to add insult to injury, even if I could
just get out of the shower and leave, I would not know what to do with it.
I would always complain about my shrinkage and how short my hair looked
when it dried. As a result, I would always rock my hair in a bun. Once I got to high school, I discovered weaves! Weaves became my best friend!

I started off with curly, full weaves with no leave out. But after a year or so, I decided that I would go for the more natural look. Unfortunately, at the time I could never find hair that matched my texture perfectly, so I would buy straight weaves and still leave my edges out. Of course, after a year or more of this process, my edges had heat damage like crazy.

Eventually, when I was in my senior year of high school, one of my best friends would constantly remind me of how beautiful and curly my NATURAL hair was with no weave. Luckily, it resonated with me and I dropped the weaves! I then discovered girls on YouTube with similar hair to mine. I learned everything from cleansing to styling my hair. I then built a regimen that I knew and loved! My hair was so healthy and at a happy place
in life. But of course, my Journey does not stop there!

By the time I was in college, I was a pro with my natural hair! I then decided that I wanted to look cute for vacation one day, so I straightened my hair! It was no
biggie because after I went swimming my hair reverted right back. Well of course, I was not satisfied with the ONE day that I had to bond with long straight hair, so what did I do? Straighten it AGAIN immediately after. My
hair surprisingly, was able to last for about a week. It was then time for
wash day! To my surprise, my hair was not reverting back like usual.

It was then that I realized that I had experienced the raft of the infamous “heat damage!” I was so distraught! It was an excessive amount of damage as well.
To top it all off, I did not just have damage at my ends that I could just trim off and continue with my journey. NO! OF COURSE NOT! My damage was in between my roots and my ends! Just my luck. I contemplated just cutting all
of my hair off and starting over but at the time I was not confident enough to walk around with extremely short hair, so I opted to transition and gradually cut instead. Eventually, after about a year or so of transitioning, I decided to big chop on July 17, 2014. I have now been
damage free for a complete year and I could not be more ecstatic.

I have learned so much about myself and my hair. This experience has and still is liberating. I am also, very proud of the growth and over all health that I have achieved this past year. A basic outline of my regimen includes daily moisturizing, weekly co washing and deep conditioning, monthly protein treatments and trims as needed.

I have recently started documenting my regimens and tips that have helped me throughout my journey on YouTube as well. Just remember ladies, all it takes is patience and a BOMB regimen and your natural hair will for sure be on

Peace, Love & Natural Hair!
