HOW TO ENSURE HEALTHY HAIR GROWTH WITH WIGS

For we naturals, wearing wigs comes naturally especially on those bad hair days. Imagine after you have generously lavished your hair with good products and twisted expecting to get an attractive twist out style the next day for that big occasion, behold as you untwist, the strands come falling down. This is what we call bad hair day and of course the wigs come in handy.

Wearing wigs is a great way to experiment with new hair styles, try out a new look or help conceal hair loss such as during the regrowing or transistioning process. Whatever your reason is for wearing wigs, it is important you remember to still care for your own hair. Failure to properly maintain the health of your hair while wearing a wig could actually lead to hair loss or damage.

HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR HAIR UNDER A WIG
Apply sheabutter and olive oil/castor oil on your hairline before wearing your wig for protection against receding hairline.

Shampoo/ Co-wash and condition your hair regularly. You shouldn’t ignore your usual hair-care routine because you are wearing a wig. After washing and conditioning your hair, always remember to dry it completely before putting on a wig. Putting a wig on over wet or damp hair creates a breeding ground for germs and fungus.

Trim your hair a regularly. Doing so will remove split ends and damaged hair follicles, which will help keep your hair healthy. In addition to keeping your hair healthy by removing damaged hair, trimming on a regular basis also will lead to faster hair growth.

Keep your hair braided or wrapped up neatly before you put on your wig. It will help keep your hair healthy and, as an added bonus, will keep your wig even and in place.
Avoid using rubber bands and barrettes to hold your hair or the wig in place.

WIGS YOU SHOULD NEVER WEAR
Lace front wigs are often applied to the perimeter of the hair line with products such as spirit gum or bonding glue. After repeated applications and removals, these products can thin out the edges of your hair, or create patches at the hair line. These can lead to extreme baldness or alopecia and the effects may be irreversible.

HOW TO MAINTAIN YOUR WIG
Wigs require a lot of maintenance. If you wear one daily, you will sweat in it and need to clean it. When you wash a wig, the texture and style of it will change, and sometimes it’s difficult to re-create the original look of the wig. Some people even go to hair stylists and pay them to fix them up again. If the hair is real, normal products can be used. For synthetic hair wigs, there are special products and brushes made especially for the fibers.

I will advise after you remove your wig, turn the inside out to dry in the sun; not direct sunlight. And rather than washing to weaken it faster you can soak a clean cloth with shampoo and clean the inside before drying out in the sun.
I hope this helps.
